In order to meet the needs of international students in learning Chinese, South China Normal University offers practical Chinese language courses. The rich variety of courses helps international students to master Chinese and understand Chinese culture. Our reasonable curriculum, intensive listening, speaking, reading, and writing exercises, flexible and diverse extracurricular support, and immersive language environment enable students to make significant progress in their Chinese language skills in a short period. After one semester of intensive Chinese classes, students can reach HSK levels 3-4; after two semesters, students can reach HSK level 5, specifically the C level (Scoring180) or higher.
1. Basic Requirements:
(1) Applicants: Non-Chinese citizens holding valid foreign ordinary passports and the duration of language learning within China shall not exceed 2 years.
(2) Age requirement: 18-55 years old (Scholarship applicants must meet the age requirements of each program).
(3) Physical Condition: In good health, meets the health examination standards of applying for a student visa or residence permit in China.
(4) Moral cultivation: China-friendly, upright behavior, law-abiding, respectful of Chinese customs and habits, with no record of violations or illegal activities.
(5) Financial Status: Able to cover the costs of tuition, accommodation, and daily living expenses.
2. Admission Conditions and Application Materials:
(1) Equal to high school qualification or above in China.
(2) Diploma of final education or Pre-Graduating Certificate, original or notarized version, in notarized Chinese or English Translation.
(3) Full transcripts of final education, original or notarized version, in notarized Chinese or English Translation.
(4) Valid HSK test report if available.
(5) A scanned copy of a passport valid for at least 6 months.
(6) Scanned copies of all visas in the passport (if applicable).
(7) A recent 6-month, full-face, standard passport-sized color photo.

5. Curriculum:
A. General Courses: Divided into elementary, intermediate and advanced courses, 20 compulsory
courses per week. Class time: Monday to Friday morning (there are no compulsory courses in the afternoon, characteristic courses are listed). After admission, students will be divided into suitable classes by passing the "Chinese Proficiency Test".
B. Intensive Courses: Divided into intensive A course (Elementary) and intensive B course (Intermediate), 30 compulsory courses per week. Class time: Monday to Friday morning and afternoon.
C. Characteristic Courses: Applied Chinese series, afternoon teaching, 4 classes per week. The concept of "Chinese +" is adopted to emphasize the application of learning. On the basis of common Chinese in morning general courses, application courses of "Chinese + Business"& "Chinese + Tourism" are added. Optional for regular classes.

7. Program duration and fees
A. Program Duration(up to two years):
●Long-term: One academic year ●Short-term: One semester / Three months / Two months / One month (students enter the corresponding level of courses after a Chinese language proficiency test)
B. Tuition and Fees:
(1) Registration fee: RMB 420 (non-refundable and non-transferable)
(2) Insurance Fee: RMB 400 per semester, 800 RMB per year
(3) Tuition:
l General courses:
① One year: RMB17,000 ② One semester: RMB8,900 ③ Three months: RMB7,500
④ Two months:RMB5,700 ⑤ One month:RMB3,200
l Intensive Chinese Course: One semester: RMB16, 500.
l Characteristic Courses: One semester: RMB3,000/semester
8. Visa Services
(1) Applicants fulfilling the admission requirements with the study duration above three months are eligible to assist in the application for either X1 or X2 visas. Students studying for one semester or 3 months for X2 visas which is allowed only one entry, while those studying for one academic year are capable of applying for X1 visas. Holders of X1 visas are obliged to pay one year's tuition and insurance fees in a lump sum.
(2) Regarding family visas, please handle them by yourselves, and the school will not issue relevant certification materials.

Application Procedure
Go to http://istudy.scnu.edu.cn, create an individual account
↓
Fill in personal information online, upload all documents as required and submit application form completely
↓(About 1-2 weeks for initial review)
After passing the initial review, an email will be sent to pay the registration fee
↓ (About 1week)
After confirming the reception of registration fee, school will schedule an interview
↓ (Average processing time is about 1 week)
After passing the interview, school will process the application of JW202 or DQ form
↓ (Average processing time is about 2-3weeks)
Admission Notice and JW202 or DQ form will be released to the applicant

Go to local Chinese embassy and consulates to apply for student visa

Register on time at SCNU
Tips:
(1) Please upload the required documents to complete the application. Each document must be less than 1M.
(2) Certificates, diplomas and transcripts must be notarized copies. All documents shall be translated into Chinese or English.
(3) If you have studied Chinese in any university in China before, please write down the length of study, and upload the first page of your passport, visa page, transcript, attendance certificate (more than 80%), transfer certificate and exit and entry records.
(4) International students from some countries are required to submit a certificate of no crime and resume notarized by the Chinese embassy. The specific requirements will be notified by email.
(5) Those under the age of 18 who apply for a degree or long-term education must have a guardian of Chinese nationality. The guardian's certificate must be notarized, and the specific requirements will be notified by mail.
(6) The applicant solemnly promises that the information filled out and materials submitted on SCNU International Students Management System are authentic, legal, valid and accurate. The submitted application materials in the online system cannot be modified. If the materials include wrong, false, or misleading information, the applicant will be disqualified and bear the relevant responsibilities.
